The universal integrated circuit card (UICC), also known as a SIM card, is the smart card (integrated circuit card) used in mobile terminals in GSM and UMTS networks. The IMSI is used to identify the subscriber's account information and services. The ICC-ID is the serial number of the SIM card itself.

The UICC ensures the integrity and security of all kinds of personal data, and it typically holds a few hundred kilobytes.

For example, on an AT&T Mobility SIM card the first seven digits are the Issuer Identification Number.

ICCIDs are stored in the SIM cards and printed on the SIM card body. The second is the Integrated Circuit Card Identifier (ICC-ID). Integrated Circuit Card Identifier is the identifier of the actual SIM card itself because it acts as the identifier for the SIM chip.
